Microsoft Outlook 2003

As a courtesy to our customers, we provide online tutorials on how to configure various email software. However our staff will NOT provide support on how to use them. For further assistance see Microsoft's Outlook 2003 support pages.

To configure your email account in Outlook 2003, follow the steps below

  1. Start Microsoft Outlook 2003. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts...
  2. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
  3. Under Server Type, select an incoming mail server type as either POP3 or IMAP and then click Next.
  4. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box that opens up, fill in the corresponding details -
    • User Information
      • Your Name: Enter a name that you want others to see when you send a message
      • E-mail Address: Enter your full email address (user@somedomainname.com)
    • Server Information
      • Incoming & Outgoing mail server: You can obtain this information from your Webmail interface and then going to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP settings. To access your Webmail interface, you can use the URL of the form http://webmail.yourdomainname.com. Here, you would need to login with your email address and the corresponding password
    • Logon Information
      • User Name: Enter your full username (same as your email address)
      • Password: Enter your email password
  5. Next, click on More Settings and select the Outgoing Server tab. Here you need to select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox, and click OK.
  6. Click Finish to close the E-mail Accounts dialog box.
IMPORTANT

Usually, the port used for the Outgoing Mail Server/SMTP Service is 25. However, there might be a situation where your ISP might be blocking the use of port 25 for SMTP service. Many ISPs block port 25 in order to minimize the amount of spam sent using their network. If you are facing issues sending mails using the default port 25, you can confirm with your ISP whether port 25 is indeed blocked by them.

To circumvent this, you can use an alternate port 587 for sending mails if port 25 is blocked. Here's how:

a) In Microsoft Outlook 2003, on the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
b) Select View or change existing email accounts and click Next.
c) Select the email account you wish to modify and click Change
d) In the Internet E-mail Settings section, click More Settings
e) Under the Advanced tab, replace the default port number 25 with the alternate port number 587 in the field provided for Outgoing server (SMTP)
f) Click OK, Next and then Finish to save the changes.
